  • Agreement with Amcu signed

    Today, 24 June 2014, the platinum producers Anglo American Platinum Limited (Amplats), Impala Platinum Holdings Limited (Implats) and Lonmin Plc (Lonmin) met with the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) to sign a 3-year wage agreement that would bring an end to the 5-month strike.

    Platinum producers Anglo American Platinum Limited (Amplats), Impala Platinum Holdings Limited (Implats) and Lonmin Plc (Lonmin) are pleased to advise the settlement of the negotiations in respect of wages and conditions of service with the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU). Employees are expected to return to work on Wednesday, 25 June 2014, with the full resumption of operations in the coming weeks.

    AMCU to host mass meeting with members

    Platinum producers Anglo American Platinum Limited (Amplats), Impala Platinum Holdings Limited (Implats) and Lonmin Plc (Lonmin) advise that, following the ‘in principle’ agreement reached last week with the leadership of the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU), further progress towards a return to work has been made. AMCU will hold a further mass meeting with its members today, 23 June 2014, and the companies expect to receive feedback from AMCU after the meeting has concluded. Further announcements will be made in due course.

    Platinum producers Anglo American Platinum Limited (Amplats), Impala Platinum Holdings Limited (Implats) and Lonmin Plc (Lonmin) strongly condemn the recent acts of violence against employees attempting to return to work, which have resulted in one confirmed strike-related death of an employee in the platinum belt, at least 20 reported acts of assault over the last two days (11 and 12 May 2014), and a number of serious incidents of intimidation against employees and bus operators providing transport to mining company employees.

    Talks between the negotiating teams of the Association of Construction and Mineworkers Union (AMCU) and the platinum producers, Anglo American Platinum (Amplats), Impala Platinum Holdings (Implats) and Lonmin Platinum (Lonmin) got underway today, 27 January 2014. The talks are scheduled to continue for a period of at least three days and are being conducted under the auspices of the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) and will seek resolution to disputes in regard to wages and conditions of service, and the strike that began on 23 January 2014.

    This is a joint statement by the CEOs of Anglo American Platinum, Impala Platinum
    and Lonmin Platinum.

    We note with dismay and regret the threatened strike action called by the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) at our operations following the deadlock reached last year in wage negotiations. We received yesterday formal notification from AMCU of the proposed strike which is expected to start with effect from Thursday, 23 January 2014.
